Resurrection Story

On July 28, 1983, Minister Charles H. Bailey and a handful of believers met in the Converse City Hall chambers to discuss organizing a church to meet the needs of the community surrounding Randolph Air Force Base.

The first public worship service of Resurrection Baptist Church, founded on the faith of a few, was held in the Converse Elementary School cafeteria on Sunday, August 28, 1983. In attendance were the seven charter members:  Pastor Bailey, founder; Glennetta Bailey, Shirley Carlton and four youth—Dedra and Adrion Bailey and Kevin and Shawn Carlton. Bible Study and prayer sessions were held in the Baileys’ home.

Over the next six years Resurrection relocated several times, Village Oak Drive and Toepperwein Road in Live Oak, Texas; Converse Elementary School cafeteria; and the Wright Place Center at Pat Booker and Kitty Hawk Roads, Universal City, Texas. The church continued to grow spiritually and numerically and through it all and God kept sending His blessings.

On August 1, 1989, Rev Charles Bailey resigned as Pastor. Chaplain Clarke McGriff served as the interim pastor for approximately one year.  In May 1990, Reverend Ray D. Brown, Sr. accepted the call as Pastor of Resurrection Baptist Church and his official installation ceremony was held on August 2nd.

In September 2002, Resurrection moved to its current location, 1002 Live Oak Road, Schertz, Texas. In 2012, a second campus (Redland Oaks Campus-ROC) was opened. We now have three worship services at two campuses; mid-week service, various Bible studies, and small groups with over 2,000 weekly attendees.

Resurrection remains committed to bringing people into God’s family and to sending out Christ followers to share God’s love and truth throughout our community and world. Through faith, work and prayer, the church has evolved from its humble beginnings of seven members and continues to grow on the principle of Matthew 28:19—“Go ye therefore and make disciples of all nations”.  The greatest story ever told is undoubtedly the Resurrection Story—the Gospel of the birth, life, death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
