Greetings Resurrection family, friends, and guests!
There is no doubt that we are living in extraordinary times. I’ve said from the very beginning and I will reiterate, our church is not closed, the buildings are closed. Resurrection has never stopped being the church and having church. The church is not and will never be within four walls. The church is beyond walls.
There is a lot of talk about houses of worship. There are a variety of opinions from people and pastors. Even the White House has said that churches have to reopen. While this may be true, it is also true that mass gatherings during this pandemic must be approached with patience, prayer, and strategic preparation. Not politics!
As your pastor, I have been prayerfully seeking divine guidance, as well as consulting with reliable experts, to get a clear understanding of what’s at stake during this very challenging time.
To give you a quick update on where we are as a church, here are five words: We are not there yet. Resurrection, I want you to know and understand that the leadership of this church is working hard every day, to come up with proper procedures for our church. I firmly believe that every church and pastor must make decisions that they believe is best for them and their congregation. And likewise, I am accountable to God to make the best decision for this congregation.
This week, and in the weeks to come, we will be meeting with experts in the health community and will give you timely updates on our progress.
Believe me when I say, I miss you! You are an amazing church, and I can’t wait to see you in person. But for now, please be patient with us as we discover the proper approach to move forward. We pray and hope to reassemble soon. In the meantime, stay safe in Jesus name!
To receive relevant updates from the church, please keep your contact info updated through our member service—Community Church Builder (CCB). Our youth is especially important to us during this time. Our youth pastor has designed engaging classes and activities that are geared to their continued spiritual growth and for them to have fun. For more information and details, contact Youth Pastor Joshua Shelby via email email@example.com or call (210) 658-0459.
I ENCOURAGE YOU TO CONTINUE TO PRAY for all those impacted by the virus; families, hospital workers, first responders, friends, our community, the world and those making decisions. GIVE—your ongoing financial support is not only helpful, it’s critical during this time. SERVE—pray and think about ways that you can safely serve your family, friends, neighbors and those most vulnerable in your community.
I ALSO ENCOURAGE YOU to visit the cdc.gov website to keep up to date with the latest news and to get details of the basic measures we all have to practice and take seriously during this time. The following information is provided if you wish to receive alerts from the City of San Antonio.

Please know that you, my church family, are always in my prayers. I pray that God will fill us with power, love and self-discipline. We live in faith, not fear! Our world has changed, but the power of God has not changed. The truth of Scripture has not changed. The hope of Jesus has not changed. Our mission as a church has not changed. Let’s continue to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus!
